PRESS RELEASE: AT HOME ANNNOUNCES THE 2009 ARCHITECT AND DESIGN AWARD WINNERS

ST. LOUIS, MO – October 23, 2009 – St. Louis AT HOME is pleased to announce the winners of the second annual AT HOME Architect and Design Awards. At a reception Thursday night, October 22, AT HOME editor-in-chief Christy Marshall presented awards in 21 categories to the 36 local companies who placed in the contest. The winning work is featured in the November/December issue of St. Louis AT HOME.

Some of the year’s big winners include Jamieson Design Associates, who won a total of seven awards including five first place awards and one second place and third place award. Jamieson Design Associates won first place for Addition to Existing Residence, Best Bath, Best Dining Room, Best Master Suite and Best Traditional Interior Design, second place for Best Contemporary Design, and third place for Best Living Room. In addition, the local architectural firm Gunn & Smith won a total of three awards including first places for Addition to Existing Residence and Best Bath and second place for Best Contemporary Design. Studio Durham won two awards including first place for Large Remodel and Best Contemporary Design. Julie Abner Interiors won first place for both Best Kitchen (Less Than 300 Square Feet) and Best Powder Room.

Additional highlights include CLB Interiors, who won four awards including first place for Best Master Suite, and second places for Best Powder Room, Best Dining Room and Best Kitchen (Less Than 300 Square Feet). Goessling Design received a total of four awards, winning both first and second place for Best Residential Landscape Design Construction, and first place for both Best Residential Swimming Pool and Best Deck/Patio/Porch.

“AT HOME's Architect and Design Awards is the only local contest that allows St. Louis’ architects and designers to have their work reviewed by the best and biggest names in the business,” says Christy Marshall, editor-in-chef of St. Louis AT HOME. “This year, the judge’s panel included "Top Design" judge and design luminary Jonathan Adler, interior designer and author Charlotte Moss, architect Ron Radziner (who lists Tom Ford and Demi Moore among his celebrated clientele), world-renowned architect Marlon Blackwell and for the second year, the editors-in-chief of House Beautiful and Dwell. This city has an amazing depth of talent and it's our pleasure to show that expertise off to those who are tops in their respective professions. In just our second year of the Architect and Design Awards, we had more than 130 entries from 50-plus different firms. I can't wait to see what the numbers will be in 2010.”

The first, second and third place winners of each category are named in the November/December issue of AT HOME, which was unveiled at the awards reception. The issue hits subscribers on October 26 and newsstands on November 2 and includes a fifteen-page feature on the contest including project descriptions and photographs of all the first place award-winning work.  In addition, the work of the first place winners in each category will also be on display at Plaza Frontenac (first floor center atrium) from October 26 – November 9. A small meet and greet reception will take place there on Thursday, October 29 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. The public is invited to meet the winners and discuss their award-winning work. The project photographs and descriptions of the second and third place winners can be viewed at www.stlmagathome.com.

AT HOME received 133 entries for the contest. The judges panel of the 2009 AT HOME Architect and Design Award competition consisted of the following national design and architecture enthusiasts: Jonathan Adler, designer and potter; Marlon Blackwell, award-winning architect and professor at the University of Arkansas; Stephen Drucker, editor-in-chief of House Beautiful magazine; Sam Grawe, editor-in-chief of DWELL magazine; Charlotte Moss, New York-based interior designer and author, and Ron Radziner, award-winning architect and design principal of Los Angeles’ Marmol Radziner and Associates.
